Thousands of Indians protested against the government's policy on the new military conscription law.

The angry demonstrators  threw   stones at police, set fire to a number of trains and cars, and blocked  highways, while police used batons and tear gas to disperse protesters in the states of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

The protests erupted, in refusal to what the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to reform the conscription system for the armed forces of 1.38 million soldiers

The Indian government   aims to reduce the average age of inpiduals and slash  spending on servicemen pensions, Reuters reported.

Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh announced that 46,000 young men and women in the age group of 17.5 to 21 years will be recruited for a period of 4 years only, with 75% of them being forced to retire after 4 years without pensions.
