Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly chaired the High Committee meeting for steering the Local Development Program in Upper Egypt governorates.
Madbouly stressed that this meeting aligns with the government’s dedication to overseeing the progress of the Local Development Program in Upper Egypt, in collaboration with international partners, such as the World Bank.
He underscored the program’s instrumental role in driving sustainable development across the region focusing on infrastructure upgrades and fostering a more competitive business environment to attract greater investment.
These efforts, he noted, are designed to yield tangible improvements in public services, directly benefiting local communities and enhancing overall living standards.
Rania Al-Mashat, in her address during the meeting, outlined the Ministry’s efforts in facilitating cooperation with international partners, particularly the World Bank, to support government-led development initiatives across Upper Egypt.
She emphasized that the Local Development Program has been recognized as a "landmark Egyptian success story" with global acclaim earning a spot on the United Nations platform. The World Bank regards it as a pioneering model reflecting Egypt’s steadfast commitment to advancing sustainable development objectives in alignment with Vision 2030.
Al-Mashat noted that in the governorates of Sohag and Qena alone, the program has positively impacted approximately 8.2 million citizens, nearly half of whom are women. With 5,130 projects successfully implemented, the initiative has generated around 369,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, significantly contributing to a decline in unemployment rates in both governorates.
The Minister of Local Development emphasized that the Local Development Program in Upper Egypt is a cornerstone of the Egyptian government’s strategy for fostering balanced regional growth. She highlighted that the program focuses on delivering high-quality infrastructure in essential sectors strengthening economic development, and enhancing the competitiveness of governorates.
Additionally, it aims to empower local authorities to spearhead economic transformation while reforming governance frameworks and operational mechanisms to ensure the efficient delivery of high-standard public services nationwide.
