The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency said that President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi expressed Egypt’s firm condemnation and complete rejection of Iran’s targeting of Gulf countries, Jordan, and Iraq, stressing that these sisterly states did not support the war against Iran nor participate in it. Instead, they contributed to efforts aimed at reducing tensions and supported Iranian–American negotiations in pursuit of a diplomatic solution to the crisis.
President Sisi also expressed Egypt’s aspiration to uphold the principle of good neighborliness and called for these attacks to stop as soon as possible. He affirmed Egypt’s regret over the current escalation and its deep concern about the negative repercussions on the stability of the region and the resources of its peoples. He also reviewed Egypt’s efforts to halt military operations and return to the negotiation track, stressing the need for flexibility in this regard.
According to presidential spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the Iranian president expressed appreciation for Egypt’s efforts and for President Sisi’s role in seeking to end the escalation. He affirmed that his country participated in negotiation rounds aimed at reaching an agreement regarding the Iranian nuclear program, and stressed Iran’s commitment to maintaining brotherly relations and good neighborliness with Arab countries.
During the call, President Sisi and President Pezeshkian also discussed possible ways to end the escalation.
The Egyptian president affirmed Egypt’s readiness to make every effort to mediate and promote political and diplomatic solutions to the current crisis. He also stressed the necessity of respecting international law and the Charter of the United Nations, as well as respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and refraining from interference in their internal affairs.
