The Russian Ambassador to Egypt, Georgiy Borisenko, announced on Tuesday that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has received an official invitation to attend the 80th-anniversary celebrations of Victory Day in Moscow. Russia hopes that the Egyptian leader will accept the invitation and take part in the commemorative events scheduled for May 9, 2025.

Speaking to the Russian news agency Sputnik, Borisenko confirmed that President Sisi was invited alongside other world leaders, including heads of BRICS nations and various other countries. Victory Day is one of Russia’s most significant national holidays, marking the defeat of Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).

"We would be very pleased to welcome President Sisi in our country," said the Russian ambassador, expressing optimism that the Egyptian leader will participate in the high-profile event. The invitation reflects Russia’s ongoing diplomatic engagement with Egypt, a key strategic partner in the Middle East and North Africa.

Moscow's Victory Day celebrations on May 9 are a longstanding tradition in Russia, featuring a military parade in Red Square, official ceremonies, and tributes to the millions of Soviet soldiers who fought during World War II. This year’s 80th anniversary is expected to be a particularly significant event, with numerous international leaders in attendance.
