The president of the pharmaceutical company "Moderna", Stefan Bancel, ruled out that vaccines against the Coronavirus  (known also as COVID-19) would be effective against the new "Omicron" mutant, as was the case with the "Delta" strain.

In an interview with the Financial Times (a UK daily newspaper specialized in business and politics), Stefan Bansel said that he doesn't think there is an effective vaccine in the world where has the same potency to fight the Omicron as other vaccines that fight the Delta strain.

Bansel  added he  thinks that there will be a fundamental shortcoming in vaccines so he  doesn't know how much that is because the world needs to wait for the data, but all the scientists he's  talked to say it wouldn't be appropriate."

On the other hand,  the Head of the Health Security Agency in Britain, Jenny Harris, explained that there is no indication of an increase in the spread of the mutant of  Coronavirus called "Omicron"  in the United Kingdom (UK) so far.

In statements to "BBC Radio", Jenny Harris indicated that there are five confirmed cases of the "Omicron" mutant in Britain, and 10 "very probable" cases.

She explained that this was not a sign of an increase in" the failure of the "S target" gene in UK PCR tests, a feature of Omicron.

"Across the country, we're watching S gene target failure, which is a kind of proxy measurement, and cases with S gene target failure can then be prioritized for complete genetic sequencing," she added.

"Health experts in the UK  have not seen a noticeable increase in the normal Infections as usually they saw during the spike of other waves of the infections with COVID-19."
