Iranian authorities confirmed that key electricity infrastructure in and around the capital came under attack on Sunday, triggering temporary blackouts before power was restored to most affected areas.

Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi stated that power facilities in Tehran and the neighboring Alborz province were targeted in coordinated strikes. The attacks led to outages across parts of the capital and the nearby city of Karaj, raising concerns over the vulnerability of critical infrastructure.

According to official statements, emergency maintenance teams were immediately deployed to contain the damage and restore electricity. Within hours, Iranian media outlets reported that electricity had been reinstated in most districts of Tehran and Karaj, suggesting that the disruptions, while widespread, were largely temporary.

The incident comes amid escalating geopolitical tensions involving Iran and the United States. Former U.S. President Donald Trump had previously warned of potential strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure if Tehran failed to engage in negotiations.

In recent days, Trump announced an extension of a deadline for possible military action, granting Iran an additional 10 days, until April 6, to respond to demands tied to regional security issues, including the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

The targeting of energy facilities underscores the sensitive nature of infrastructure in geopolitical conflicts, particularly in regions where energy supply plays a central role in both domestic stability and global markets.

While Iranian officials have not publicly identified the the party responsible for the attacks, the timing has intensified speculation about potential escalation in the region.
