Poland has signed a significant contract to purchase 48 M903 missile launchers, which will be integrated into the Patriot air defense system, as announced by Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz on Monday.
The deal, valued at $1.23 billion, was struck with Raytheon Polska and PGZ Huta Stalowa Wola, marking a major step in bolstering the country's defense capabilities.
During a visit to the central Polish city of Sochaczew, Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that the missile launchers will be produced in Poland, highlighting the nation's commitment to developing its defense industry.
The acquisition of these launchers underscores Poland's heightened focus on defense, particularly in the wake of the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war, which began in 2022.
The conflict has prompted Eastern European NATO members to prioritize military readiness and strengthen their defensive measures.
In response to growing regional tensions, Poland has significantly increased its defense spending, allocating around 4% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) this year to enhance its military forces
