Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inspected the Luxor International Medical Complex during a visit to the governorate to review development and service projects and follow up on the implementation of the comprehensive health insurance system.
During the tour, officials from the General Authority for Healthcare said the complex has become the main referral center for advanced and complex medical cases in Upper Egypt after introducing new services, including burn treatment, open-heart surgery, bronchoscopy, gastrointestinal oncology endoscopy, bone deformity surgeries, and bone marrow transplantation. The prime minister was briefed on the development plan for the complex, noting that the first phase has been fully completed and covered emergency services, inpatient wards, intensive care units, incubators, endoscopy units, and bone marrow transplant facilities, while remaining phases are nearing completion.
Officials said the complex has a total capacity of 373 inpatient beds, 57 intensive care beds, 26 neonatal incubators, 13 operating rooms, 22 dialysis beds, and advanced imaging equipment, including MRI and CT scanners. They added that the facility has provided more than 1.6 million medical services and performed nearly 33,000 surgeries since operations began, including procedures conducted for the first time in the governorate.
Madbouly toured several departments and patient rooms, stressing the importance of maintaining service quality and ensuring the continued availability of modern medical equipment and supplies. He also asked about staffing for major surgeries and was told that specialized medical teams from Cairo University hospitals, Ain Shams University hospitals, and Assiut University Hospital are involved.
The prime minister met with patients and their families, who praised the quality of medical care and said they previously had to travel to other governorates for treatment. Madbouly concluded by commending the level of healthcare services provided in Luxor under the comprehensive health insurance system, reaffirming the state’s commitment to providing high-quality medical care for residents of Upper Egypt within their own governorates.
