PM Considers Accelerating Customs Measures

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said the government considers accelerating customs clearance measures to encourage trade and industry.

The PM stressed the government's keenness to accelerate the procedures of customs release to help boost the import and export of goods.

This came during a meeting on Tuesday with the minister of finance Mohamed Maait and Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar.

On his part, Maait reviewed an analytical study on means of developing goods clearing measures in ports to achieve competitiveness with ports at the regional and international levels.

Among these proposals is the formation of a joint committee at each customs port to facilitate inspection and sampling of consignments.

A proposal was made to instruct the authorities to issue clearance orders for goods within three days, bearing in mind that the container should be opened only once during the specified dates, to standardize the bodies responsible for inspections and to adhere to the specified timetables, achieving trade cost reduction goal.

The proposals also included reducing the number of documents related to customs release to reduce unnecessary procedures, accelerating Trade and Integration in the region.

Moreover, a complete electronic communication system, will be set between all ports to facilitates the flow of data and information, reducing the number of circulated documents.

The meeting also proposed establishing and equipping dry ports that work as an inland intermodal terminal that is directly connected by road or rail to a seaports. Th ports will facilitate the storage of goods and perform the customs procedures upon their exit from the seaports.

Madbouly gave directives to form a permanent committee for examining goods, adding that a meeting will be held with the ministers concerned to tackle customs clearance measures in detail.
