In the abduction of British journalist Dom Phillips and indigenous specialist Bruno Pereira, police have apprehended a second suspect, LBC reported.

Oseney da Costa de Oliveira, 41, was the brother of the first suspect apprehended, according to police.

Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira, also known as Pelado, was listed as a suspect in the disappearance but was detained for reportedly carrying a pistol without a permission, which is typical in the region.

On June 4, he is suspected of being part of a group of guys who threatened the missing men near an indigenous territory. Personal items belonging to the two missing males were discovered in a river on Sunday, according to authorities.

The items included a rucksack and boots belonging to Phillips, as well as a health card, black trousers, a black sandal, and a pair of boots belonging to Pereira, according to a statement.

Phillips, 57, and Bruno Pereira, 41, a Brazilian indigenous specialist, went from a remote region of the Amazon last week and were last seen in the Sao Rafael hamlet early on June 5.

Earlier, the Brazilian envoy to the UK apologised to Phillips' family for informing them that his body had been discovered wrongly.

The family received a call early Monday from an adviser to the ambassador informing them that their bodies had been discovered tied to trees in the rainforest, according to The Guardian.

On Tuesday, Phillips' brother-in-law, Paul Sherwood, told the PA news agency that ambassador Fred Arruda had written to the family to correct the remark.

"We are sincerely sorry the embassy provided on to the family yesterday information that proved to be incorrect," Arruda added.

He went on to state that information received from "investigating officials" had "misled" the embassy.

"The search operation will continue with no effort spared," Arruda insisted.

"Our thoughts are with Dom, Bruno, yourself, and the other members of both families," he continued.

Separate reports surfaced on Saturday claiming that authorities had uncovered human remains in the Itaquai River near Atalaia do Norte's port.

Blood found on Pelado's yacht had previously been sent for analysis, according to authorities.

On Wednesday morning, a GoFundMe page set up by friends of the men raised about $37,000 (£30,732).
