Speaker of the Arab Parliament Adel Assomi urged the Arab states to provide assistance to Somalia to overcome the drought crisis that the country faces for the third consecutive year.
Assomi stressed the importance of the Arab and international donor institutions to help millions of Somali people at risk of starvation due to this devastating crisis that has been looming for months.
The statements came during his meeting with Sheikh Adan Muhammad Nur, Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The two sides discussed ways to strengthen relations between the Arab Parliament and the Somali House, touching upon ways to provide support following the completion of Somalia’s recent legislative elections.
In the same vein, Asoomi highlighted his constant keenness to enhance cooperation between the AP and the Somali Parliament, affirming their full support for Somalia during that crucial phase of its history.
He also hailed efforts to consolidate security and stability and advance the country’s economic development and recovery to enable it to overcome the challenges it faces in all areas.
