Palestinian Prime Minister (PM) Muhammad Shtayyeh called on a delegate of US Congress to investigate "the practices of persecution and apartheid carried out by Israel against the Palestinian people."
During a meeting on Monday with a delegation from the US Congress comprising 30 members of the Republican Party, Shtayyeh explained that these practices have been documented by a number of international reports, such as the recent reports of "Amnesty International" and "Human Rights Watch".
He added that the American administration can compel Israel to stop its aggression against the Palestinian people if it wants, including its aggression against land, people, sacred places and economy.
The Palestinian PM also called on the US administration to "adhere to its commitments to the Palestinians, foremost of which is the reopening of the US Consulate in East Jerusalem", in addition to "reviewing all laws and legislation that have been taken towards the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian Authority (PA) as a partner for peace."
Shtayyeh also called on the United States of America ( USA) to "pressure Israel to abide by the agreements signed with it, including allowing elections to be held in Jerusalem.
He said that the completion of the municipal elections is a step towards general elections if Israel agrees to hold these elections in Jerusalem."
