Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa has called for an immediate transition to the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, warning against what he described as Israeli attempts to manipulate the deal by creating new pretexts for escalation and obstructing its implementation.
Speaking during the opening of the weekly cabinet session on Tuesday, Mustafa stressed the necessity of Israel’s full withdrawal from Gaza, the launch of early recovery efforts, and the start of comprehensive reconstruction, following the completion of the prisoner exchange file and the handover of the final bodies. He cautioned that delaying the second phase poses serious risks to stability and undermines efforts to prevent renewed violence.
The prime minister emphasized that providing urgent humanitarian relief to Gaza remains a top priority, calling for the immediate opening of border crossings and support for all initiatives aimed at alleviating the suffering of Palestinians. He welcomed any efforts that contribute to empowering the Palestinian people, provided they align with international law, United Nations resolutions, and international agreements, and ensure the geographic, legal, and institutional unity of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
During the session, the Palestinian cabinet condemned Israeli military actions in the town of Kafr Aqab and the surroundings of the Qalandiya refugee camp, north of Jerusalem, which included large-scale incursions, demolitions of buildings and facilities, and assaults on residents. The cabinet warned that these actions are part of a systematic policy targeting Palestinians in Jerusalem and attempting to impose new realities on the city.
The cabinet also denounced what it described as repressive measures by Israeli authorities against local and international institutions operating in Jerusalem, particularly the UNRWA. This included the demolition of UNRWA offices and the removal of its flag from its headquarters in occupied East Jerusalem, actions the cabinet described as a blatant violation of the rights of Palestinian refugees and a deliberate attempt to erase their identity.
