On Sunday, Pakistan’s Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, praised Egypt and Al Azhar Al Sharif University, for their outstanding role in spreading Islamic knowledge and deepening the understanding of Islamic teachings.
He described Al-Azhar as a beacon of knowledge that has guided generations with its rich heritage of wisdom and learning.
During his speech at the 35th International Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Cairo, Minister Hussain highlighted Al-Azhar’s significant influence in shaping the minds and hearts of Muslims worldwide. He emphasized the institution’s efforts to preserve Islamic values and expressed his gratitude to the Egyptian government for hosting the conference, which this year focuses on "The Role of Women in Building Awareness."
Minister Hussain also underscored the crucial role that women play in raising awareness, particularly in religious, cultural, social, and family spheres. He called for collective efforts to enhance women’s roles in development, which he said is essential for the overall welfare of society and for building a better future.
The conference, organized by Egypt’s Ministry of Religious Endowments, brought together over 100 scholars and representatives from 60 countries. The opening session was attended by prominent figures including Egypt’s Minister of Religious Endowments, Dr. Osama Al-Azhari; Minister of Social Solidarity, Dr. Maya Morsy; and Egypt’s Grand Mufti, Dr. Nazir Mohamed Ayad.
Minister Hussain pointed out that women are at the forefront of efforts to provide quality education, public health services, poverty alleviation, and community empowerment. He stressed that by supporting women in these efforts, societies can be strengthened and improved.
He also highlighted four key areas where women play a pivotal role: religious awareness, cultural awareness, community service, and family and child care. Minister Hussain noted that these areas not only showcase the invaluable contributions of women but also offer opportunities for further development and impact. He reaffirmed that Islam recognizes and honors the role of women in fostering awareness, promoting knowledge, driving change, and upholding justice.
