Pakistani Minister of Climate Change Sherry Rehman said, on Sunday, in her speech at the IPU Parliamentary Meeting: “We are grateful to the UN system and other partners for this fundamental advance to leverage this responsibility. COP-27 is an important hub to advance these common efforts but differentiated responsibilities.”

Rehman asserted that there is a necessity to take the required measures to save the planet as the “climate clock is running.”

She reflected: “It is the time to take the necessary measures and let us pay attention to what we are doing to each other and what we are doing to this planet and there is no other option for us."

“There is no other planet to migrate to. Perhaps the privilege to utilize the space and the time is running out. The climate clock is running. It is running at COP-27 and we have started negations under the spirit of cooperation. But there is also a fear of lack of action which we all talk about. We all talk about more actions. We all talk about the crisis and make our planet livable for our children and our future,” the Pakistani minister continued.

Rehman underscored in her speech that all parties should unite together for a better future, and to take immediate action, highlighting: “For our children, it is not the future, but it is our present and right now.

She continued: "We are debating the decisions, but we must make decisions about our present and future. Thirty-three degrees plus represent a shock. And we are still hoping that we will be able to save them, giving them predictability and the future. They have a right to live.”

Finally, the Pakistani minister concluded: “We come here to the COP27 to translate intentions into actions and from ambitions to processes and delivering results on the ground.”
