Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will visit Egypt from December 18 to 20, 2024, to participate in the 11th Summit of the Developing Eight (D-8) countries, according to a statement released by Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The summit, taking place in Cairo, is themed “Investing in Youth and Supporting SMEs: Shaping Tomorrow’s Economy.”
Ahead of the summit, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar will attend the 21st Session of the D-8 Council of Ministers on December 18.
The Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson stated that Prime Minister Sharif will emphasize the importance of investing in youth and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to build a resilient and inclusive economy, create jobs, foster innovation, and promote local entrepreneurship.
He will reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to the D-8’s vision and advocate for enhanced collaboration in key areas such as agriculture, food security, and tourism.
The Prime Minister will also participate in a special session addressing the humanitarian crisis and reconstruction challenges in Gaza and Lebanon.
During the session, he will reiterate Pakistan’s principled stance on the Palestine issue and call for peace in the Middle East in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression.
On the sidelines of the summit, the Prime Minister is expected to hold bilateral meetings with other participating leaders to discuss avenues for strengthening mutual cooperation, the statement added.
The Developing Eight (D-8) is an organization of developing nations focused on enhancing economic ties and promoting sustainable development among its members.
This visit reflects Pakistan’s dedication to fostering international partnerships and addressing global challenges through multilateral forums, the spokesperson noted.
