Pakistan has called for a diplomatic solution to the ongoing unrest in Iran, stressing the importance of regional stability. Speaking at a UN Security Council briefing on Thursday, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, stated that Islamabad is monitoring the situation "closely" and hopes for a swift return to normalcy.
Ambassador Ahmad emphasized that a "stable and peaceful Iran" is vital not only for Pakistan but for the broader Middle East and beyond. He expressed full confidence in the "wisdom and resilience of the Iranian people and their leadership" to navigate the current challenges.
Defending International Sovereignty During the briefing, the Pakistani envoy highlighted that the core principles of the UN Charter are "sacred and inviolable." He reminded the council that international law strictly prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any sovereign state.
“Any external interference in the internal affairs of states is contrary to international law and the principles of the UN Charter,” Ahmad noted, implicitly cautioning against foreign intervention amid escalating tensions.
Warning Against Unilateral Action The Ambassador warned that the continuation of hostilities, unilateral measures, and the use of force would only deepen existing crises and cause "unnecessary suffering." Pakistan’s stance remains firm: all disputes must be resolved through peaceful means and in accordance with international law.
As regional players watch Tehran with caution, Pakistan’s diplomatic appeal underscores the delicate balance required to prevent the situation from spiraling into a wider conflict.
