OIC, USAID hold Consultations at Agency's Headquarters in Washington

A delegation from the OIC General Secretariat led by the Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs, Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakheet, held bilateral consultations with officials from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), headed by Ms. Sonali Cordy, Assistant Director General of the Agency, at the agency's headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The two sides exchanged views on ways and means to strengthen their bilateral partnership within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation signed in 2012 and renewed in 2016, which includes joint consultations and strategic dialogue, information exchange, participation in disaster response, training, and operational support. The two sides also renewed their commitment to enhance cooperation in the field of humanitarian assistance and adhere to humanitarian principles.

It is worth mentioning that several resolutions issued by the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, including the recent resolution on Humanitarian Affairs adopted at the 50th session held in Yaoundé, Republic of Cameroon, on 29 and 30 August 2024, called on the General Secretariat to continue its efforts in developing the capacities of humanitarian organizations in the OIC Member States through its joint program with the United States Agency for International Development.
