OIC Participates in UNA Executive Council

Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), delivered a speech at the twenty-sixth session of the Executive Council of the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA), held virtually, today, Thursday.

The session was opened by His Excellency Mr. Ali bin Abdullah Al-Zaid, Vice-President of the Executive Council and the General Assembly of the Union and Chairman of the Saudi Press Agency, representing His Excellency Mr. Salman bin Youssef Al-Dosari, Chairman of the Executive Council and the General Assembly of the Union, Minister of Media of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. H.E. Dr. Ahmed Assaf, Palestinian Minister of Official Information, and Mr. Mohammed Abd Rabbo Al-Yami, UNA Director General, addressed the opening session.

The Secretary-General said that in light of the global rapid technological boom in the field of media and communication, and the amazing developments in modern media, especially social media platforms and artificial intelligence to supplement media work, the OIC highly appreciates the development of the work and the tangible success achieved by UNA in the past few years.

Furthermore, the Secretary-General welcomed the media projects carried out by UNA to support the OIC media work and visibility, and UNA development of the much-needed infrastructure of the news agencies of the OIC Member States. He noted that this is done through the provision of specialized training courses to refine the skills of journalists in various fields, as well as to support the interfaces of news agencies on the Internet and social media platforms to enable them to keep pace with the contemporary challenges and requirements, and to provide added value and great services to the peoples of the Islamic world in their various languages and cultures.

In his speech, the Secretary-General praised the great efforts made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulazeez Al Saud, and his Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Prime Minister, expressing his thanks to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its continued support for the OIC.

The Secretary-General also expressed his appreciation for the meaningful media partnerships carried out recently by the Union, and the resulting signing of memorandums of understanding with a number of local and international institutions.
