Sheikh Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah Kuwait Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait organized a symposium entitled (The International Islamic Court of Justice: Establishment and Statute) with the participation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait and the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The symposium addressed the idea of the Court’s establishment that emerged since the Third Islamic Summit Conference held in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in January 1981, as well as in the Fifth Islamic Summit Conference held in the State of Kuwait in January 1987, where it was considered the headquarters of the Court, and then resolutions were adopted to urge OIC Member States to expedite their signing and ratification of the Statute of the Court so that this Statute can enter into force.
The symposium addressed the importance of the International Islamic Court of Justice, which is a strategic step to enhance unity and legal and judicial cooperation among the OIC Member States.
The symposium reviewed some articles of the Court’s Statute, which require the signature and ratification of 38 countries, equivalent to two-thirds of the OIC Member States, for the Court to be operational, while only 14 countries have already ratified the Statute.
