The State of Kuwait hosted a high-level forum for representatives of OIC Member States on ‘Activating the International Islamic Court of Justice’ as part of Kuwait’s diplomatic efforts to ratify the Statute of the Court by Member States.
The Forum reviewed the decision to establish the Court since the Third OIC Summit held in Mecca in January 1981, as well as the Fifth Islamic Summit held in Kuwait, which designated Kuwait as the Court’s headquarters.
It also examined a series of subsequent resolutions urging Member States to expedite the signing and ratification of the Statute to bring the Court into force.
Moreover, the discussions covered recent developments in international justice, the objectives and jurisdiction of the International Islamic Court of Justice in comparison with similar international courts, and the importance of activating the Court to enhance cooperation and facilitate dispute resolution among Member States.
