OIC Participates in Arab Red Crescent, Red Cross Organization Meeting in Riyadh

The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), represented by Dr Aisha Shami Al-Ayafi, participated in the meeting of the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization, held in Riyadh alongside representatives of Arab national associations and humanitarian work partners.

In her speech at the meeting, Dr Al-Ayafi underscored the importance of enhancing field coordination, raising the bar of emergency response efficiency, and building the capacities of national institutions. 

She stressed the commitment of the OIC to enhancing partnerships with the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization, supporting effective partnerships and enabling national mechanisms to handle urgent needs in OIC member states affected by humanitarian crises.

Dr Al-Ayafi added that her participation was in the implementation of the OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha’s directives, who attaches special importance to humanitarian work issues and assures of his continued support for the efforts of the Department of Humanitarian Affairs in building strategic partnerships that serve the member states and reinforce the values of Islamic solidarity. 

She pointed out that humanitarian efforts are borne out of the values of mercy and mutual support. She commended the role of the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization as an umbrella platform for enhancing humanitarian response efficiency.

 She also emphasized that the unification of efforts and the development of joint operation plans is the quickest and effective way to reach the most vulnerable groups.

The meeting addressed key themes, including raising the preparedness of Arab humanitarian work, enhancing coordination mechanisms, and discussing common challenges. It also discussed the launching of new initiatives on food security, health, and disaster response.
