Head of Climate Change Information Center at Ministry of Agriculture, Mohamed Ali Fahim said on Sunday that cyclone "Shaheen" poses no threat to Egypt.

In press statements, Fahim added, "The Red and the Mediterranean seas are among the areas where no destructive hurricanes occur," noting that "hurricanes always occur in the open oceans, specifically the Atlantic and Pacific."

"Cyclone Shaheen occurs annually in the ocean and ends there as well, but it is not a strong hurricane that may pose a great danger," the official stressed.

It is worth mentioning that, Tropical Cyclone Shaheen hit land in Oman on Sunday having already killed at least three people, its high winds prompting evacuations from coastal areas and delaying flights to and from the capital, Muscat, according to Reuters.

The storm was carrying winds of 120 kph (75 mph) and throwing up waves of up to 10 meters (32 feet), Omani authorities said.
