The New York Times (NYT) quoted American sources as saying that Washington has installed sensors on the territory of Ukraine, supposedly to detect the level of radioactivity, as well as to determine the location and strength of the nuclear explosion.

The US newspaper reported this, quoting experts from the National Nuclear Security Administration of the US Department of Energy, and the specialists said: "If a nuclear disaster occurs in Ukraine, whether it is a release of radiation from a nuclear reactor or an explosion of a nuclear weapon, the scientists' analysis will be quickly submitted to US government agencies." and decision-making centres in the region to make practical decisions to protect public health.”

The sources in the National Nuclear Security Administration said that work is underway with Kyiv to install sensors, train workers, track data and possibly warn of dangerous levels of radiation, explaining that they are installing similar sensors "throughout the region."

The newspaper stated that Washington believes that installing a network of sensors will help avoid errors in determining who is responsible for a possible nuclear explosion in several cases.
