Egypt’s New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) will be granted the United Nations-Habitat Scroll of Honour award for 2021 in the field of sustainable urbanization among 170 nominations across many countries, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
In a statement, Egypt's Ambassador to Kenya and the Representative of the United Nations Habitat Khaled Al-Abyad said the award ceremony will coincide with The World Habitat Day, which is celebrated annually on the first Monday of October every year.
He revealed that the award will be presented to the winners, including NUCA, during the Global Observance of World Habitat Day on 4 October in Cameroon’s capital of Yaounde.
Earlier, the UN-Habitat praised NUCA’s efforts to provide safe and affordable social housing projects over the past four decades.
It's worth mentioning that UN-Habitat, in Nairobi, Kenya, is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
