North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the test of a 240mm multiple rocket launcher equipped with a new guidance system, which state media claim has enhanced destructive power capable of reaching the South Korean capital, Seoul.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the test was conducted on Tuesday, demonstrating the upgraded system’s maneuverability, concentrated firing capability, and increased destructive power.
The launch system, produced by defense industrial enterprises under the Second Economic Commission, could potentially target Seoul and surrounding areas.
Kim Jong Un also outlined a new policy for producing advanced artillery pieces and equipping army units with them, though details were not provided.
In a related development, a South Korean security agency estimated that North Korea has shipped over 13,000 containers of weapons to Russia since mid-2022, which could equate to 6 million artillery shells for Russian forces in Ukraine.
