North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and President of the State Affairs Commission, met with the bereaved families of soldiers who lost their lives in overseas military operations. The meeting, held at the Mokran House on August 29, was described as an occasion of deep emotion and solemn tribute.

Senior officials of the WPK Central Committee, leading officers of the Ministry of National Defence, and officials from revolutionary schools were present at the gathering.

In his remarks, Kim Jong Un offered heartfelt condolences to the families, expressing his grief at not being able to bring the soldiers home alive. He emphasized that their sacrifices, made in defense of the nation’s dignity and honor, would remain forever etched in the memory of the Korean people.

“The martyrs devoted their lives without regret,” he said. “Though they fell so young, their indomitable spirit and revolutionary mettle opened a new chapter in our nation’s history and inspired flames of heroism across the country.”

Kim praised the families for their strength and for regarding the loss of their loved ones as a source of national honor rather than despair. He stressed that the DPRK’s army is a heroic force, forged from the most patriotic people in the world, and one that will always emerge victorious.

During the ceremony, Kim presented the families with framed photographs of the martyrs wrapped in the national flag, describing it as the sacred banner of glory for which the soldiers gave their lives. The presentation moved many family members to tears.

Kim also posed for a commemorative photograph with the families and instructed senior officials from revolutionary schools to ensure that the children of martyrs are raised as loyal sons and daughters of the nation, dedicated to carrying forward their parents’ legacy.

He concluded by pledging that the dreams and ambitions of the fallen would be realized, affirming that the WPK and the people will build a powerful and prosperous socialist state worthy of their sacrifice.
