The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization received a huge double-statue of King Merneptah and Hathor, coming from Miet-Rahena, to be displayed at the museum’s main hall as a part of the museum’s display scenario.
Made from pink granite, it is one of the biggest Merneptah statues. It is 2 meters and 60 cm high, 1 meter wide, and it weighs 4 tons.
Furthermore, it depicts king Merneptah holding Hathor's hand who stands on his left. Both wore the double crown Pschent. Also, it carries various hieroglyphic writings that depict the king’s different titles.
Regarding Merneptah mummy, it will be placed at the NMEC alongside the other royal mummies that will be carried to the museum through the long waited royal parade according to Dr. Ahmed Ghoniem, the Executive Director of the NMEC.
The royal mummies will be transferred from the Egyptian Museum to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in an international royal-like parade.
He added that the museum will be an important touristic destination for Egyptians and foreign visitors. This will enhance the museum’s cultural and economic gains.
It is worth mentioning that NMEC is a collaboration project between Egypt and UNESCO to be one of the biggest museums of civilization in Egypt and the Middle East. It provides a new contemporary vision of Egyptian heritage.
In 2017, Tourism and Antiquities Minister Dr. Khaled El Enani and the former Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova opened an exhibit hall dedicated to temporary exhibitions of NMEC.
