Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage will star in a new epic frontier adventure movie titled “Butcher’s Crossing”.

Gabe Polsky, who directed documentaries "Red Army" and "Red Penguins", will make his narrative feature debut with the movie.

“Butcher’s Crossing” is based on a novel of the same title by John Williams, which explores man’s relationship with the natural world. Polsky wrote the adaptation with Liam Satre-Meloy.

The director had previously worked with Cage as a producer for his 2009 movie “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans”.

Altitude is handling international sales and will introduce the project to buyers at the Cannes Virtual Market, which will take place from June 21-25. Altitude has also secured the film for the U.K. and Irish distribution.

The movie centers around a young Harvard dropout, who seeks his destiny out West by tying his fate to a team of buffalo hunters led by Miller (played by Cage). Together, they carry on a harrowing journey risking life and sanity.

Production will kick off in the U.S in October.

Wildlife conservation charity Defenders of Wildlife and American adventurer and writer Steve Rinella will also be involved in the project, which will be produced by Polsky, Molly Conners of Phiphen Pictures, as well as Will Clarke and Andy Mayson of Altitude Film Entertainment. Cage’s Saturn Films will also produce.

Cage will next appear in the movie “Pig”, playing a wronged truffle hunter searching for his kidnapped pig. The movie is set to debut on July 16.
