New Year's Fireworks Cause 700 Fires in Poland; 2 Killed

At least two people died, and about 700 fires occurred in Poland due to New Year's fireworks, State Fire Service spokesman Karol Kierzkowski revealed on Sunday.

"On New Year's Eve, about 700 fires caused by fireworks were recorded,” the statement read.

Kierzkowski told reporters that there were fires in garbage bins, hedges, and cars. He stated that 12 vehicles were damaged, adding that seven people were injured.

On New Year's Eve, firefighters were called more than 1,200 times, with 149 calls turning out to be false.

In the same vein, a total of 180 people in Italy were wounded, with 48 of them hospitalized due to fireworks, according to data from the Italian Interior Ministry.

The number of minors injured by fireworks surged from 20 last year to 50.

Media outlets revealed that some serious incidents occurred in the southern regions of the country, where celebrations are traditionally larger in scale.

A 10-year-old boy in the commune of Tarano lost his hand when a firecracker exploded.
