The announcement came in the form of a cheeky little letter from Whistledown herself,  the Regency-era Gossip Girl character who was unmasked in the Season 1 finale, affirming the return of the Bridgerton family and the rest of the Regency London society scene.

“I am so thrilled to be announcing that Bridgerton will be back for a second season,” Dusen stated. “We are going to be starting filming later this Spring in London and we’re all so excited. I know the cast can’t wait to get back to it and neither can I.”

“Season two, we’re really going to be with the eldest Bridgerton brother, this season. Our Viscount Lord Anthony Bridgerton played by Jonathan Bailey,” Dusen revealed teasing fans. “We left him at the end the of the first season in a bit of a crossroads so I’m looking forward to jumping in and discovering how he fares on the marriage market.”

“I know where we’re going, I know we have a bunch of new characters that we’re going to be introducing,” he added. “Anthony is going to have a love interest next season and I think it’s going to be as sweeping and as moving and as beautiful as viewers of the first season have come to expect of the show.”

The showrunner has recently admitted that he would love to explore each character in more seasons, noting that with the Bridgerton gang consisting of eight kids, it could mean the series will be around for many years.

“This being a family of eight children and there being eight books, I would love to be able to focus and really tell stories and love stories for all the Bridgerton siblings. For each character, for sure. I would love that.”

Season 2 will be based on Book 2 the Viscount Who Loved Me.
