Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated his opposition to a ceasefire in Gaza, despite increasing international pressure.
Netanyahu insisted that he had received a green light from Israeli public opinion to continue fighting in Gaza, and reported that he had received a letter from the family of a soldier killed in battle in which he said, “You have a mandate to fight, but you do not have a mandate to stop halfway.”
His statements came despite increasing demands to implement an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the most recent of which came from French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna.
Yesterday, Saturday, British and German Foreign Ministers David Cameron and Annalena Baerbock shared the same call in a joint article for the British newspaper The Sunday Times in which they urged efforts to pave the way for a “permanent ceasefire” in the Strip.
