On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated US President-elect Joe Biden on his election victory, describing him as 'a great friend for Israel'.

"Congratulations @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris," Netanyahu Tweeted.

"Joe, we’ve had a long and warm personal relationship for nearly 40 years, and I know you as a great friend of Israel. I look forward to working with both of you to further strengthen the special alliance between the US and Israel," he added.

In another tweet, he thanked incumbent US president Donald Trump for "the friendship you have shown the state of Israel and me personally, for recognizing Jerusalem and the Golan, for standing in face of Iran, for the historic peace deals and for bringing the American-Israeli alliance to unprecedented heights."

Earlier, Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid tweeted, "I look forward to working with the new US administration with the aim of deepening and strengthening the special relationship between Israel and the US"

It is worth mentioning that, after a lengthy count, Biden's victory was finally announced yesterday – with joyous scenes breaking out across the US.

He has defeated President Donald Trump to become the 46th president of the United States. He won Pennsylvania on Saturday to exceed the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House.

Biden has pledged to be a “President for all Americans”, while running mate Kamala Harris said it was a race “for the soul of America”.
