Israeli Public Broadcasting Authority correspondent Amichai Stein announced on Monday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled the Israeli delegation’s visit to the White House, after the United States abstained from voting on a resolution in the UN Security Council demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Stein added - in his account on the “X” platform “on behalf of the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office” - “In light of the change in the American position, Prime Minister Netanyahu decided that the delegation will not leave for Washington.”
The United States retreated from its firm position in the Security Council linking the ceasefire to the release of hostages, as the United Nations Security Council issued, on Monday, the first resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza after the United States abstained from voting on the Israeli war against Hamas.
The final vote came with a majority of 14 votes in favour, with no opposing votes and one member abstaining from voting. After the vote, the council erupted in applause.
