Mohammad Mohaddessin, chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, warned Wednesday that Iran is facing a renewed surge in political executions, describing recent killings of PMOI members as a sign of deeper instability within the country.
Speaking during an online press conference, Mohaddessin said four members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran had been executed in recent days after prolonged detention and alleged torture. He added that additional prisoners detained during a January uprising were also put to death last week.
He cautioned that the executions could foreshadow a broader crackdown, drawing comparisons to the 1988 mass executions of Iranian political prisoners, and called for urgent international intervention.
Highlighting the activities of the PMOI-led networks inside Iran, Mohaddessin said: “Over the past year alone, Resistance Units carried out 4,092 anti-repression operations. During the recent uprising, they conducted 630 operations to confront repressive forces and protect demonstrators.”
He also pointed to what he described as a significant escalation earlier this year: “A major turning point was the bold operation on February 23, when 250 fighters targeted the headquarters of Ali Khamenei in the heart of Tehran. In that operation, 100 members were killed or arrested, while 150 withdrew safely.”
Quoting NCRI President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, Mohaddessin said the executions reflect “the clerical regime’s fear and desperation in the face of an enraged population and growing support for the Resistance Units and the Liberation Army.”
He further warned of imminent risks facing detainees: “Today, many prisoners, especially PMOI members, are at risk of execution. Beyond the four already executed, the death sentences of 15 others have been confirmed by the Supreme Court and await implementation. Many other political prisoners are likely to receive death sentences as well.”
Mohaddessin argued that the regime’s leadership is increasingly focused on suppressing internal dissent, despite external pressures, and said the country could see further unrest once current conflicts subside.
Calling on global powers to respond, he said: “The international community must uphold its obligations. We call for the closure of embassies and expulsion of regime diplomats, recognition of the provisional government, and recognition of the right of the Iranian people and Resistance to confront the IRGC and overthrow the regime.”
At the end of his remarks, Mohaddessin responded to questions from reporters.
