NATO: Türkiye Agreed to Support Sweden's Bid to Join The Military Western Alliance

The Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Jens Stoltenberg, said that Türkiye agreed to support Sweden's attempt to join the military alliance.

"I am pleased to announce that after the meeting I hosted with President (Turkish Recep Tayyip) Erdogan and the Swedish Prime Minister, President Erdogan agreed to refer Sweden's accession protocol," Stoltenberg added, in a tweet on "Twitter" reported by the American news channel "CNN" today, to the Grand National Assembly (Turkish Parliament) as soon as possible and ensure its ratification.

After an enlarged meeting in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, the NATO Secretary-General described Türkiye's approval, "this is a historic step that makes all NATO allies stronger and more secure." Stoltenberg stressed that Sweden will actively support efforts to revitalize Turkey's accession process to the European Union (EU ).
