Javier Colomina, NATO’s Special Representative for the Southern Neighborhood, has praised Egypt for its pivotal role in promoting stability and peace across the Middle East, describing the country as “a key partner of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in maintaining regional security.”

According to an official statement issued by NATO headquarters in Brussels, Colomina lauded what he termed Egypt’s “active and engaged diplomacy” in addressing the region’s challenges, highlighting the country’s strategic balance and respect for state sovereignty and national interests.

Colomina concluded an official visit to Cairo, which began on January 12, during which he held high-level discussions with Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptian Expatriates. The talks focused on regional security, ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, and opportunities to enhance cooperation between Egypt and NATO.

During the visit, Colomina also toured the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), a NATO partner in training and education. In addition, he met with Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, exchanging views on the latest regional developments and efforts to reduce tensions.

Colomina reaffirmed NATO’s appreciation for its longstanding partnership with Egypt and emphasized ongoing initiatives to further develop collaboration in security, diplomacy, and regional stability. The visit underscores Egypt’s growing influence in Middle Eastern affairs and NATO’s commitment to engaging closely with key partners in the region.
