North Korea has ratified a defense cooperation treaty with Russia.
The Korean Central News Agency reported on Tuesday that the "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation," signed in Pyongyang on June 19, has been officially ratified.
The treaty will come into effect once both sides exchange ratification documents.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the treaty last June, which includes a provision for mutual assistance "in the event that either country is attacked."
