Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed today, Wednesday, that cooperation with North Korea is based on principles of equality and mutual respect for the interests of both countries.

He expressed Moscow's appreciation for the continuous and steadfast support North Korea has shown to Russia in its struggle against the "imperialist hegemonic policy that the United States and its allies have been trying to impose on it for decades."

During his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Putin stated that a new fundamental document was prepared today, which will form the basis for relations between the two countries for many years to come, according to the Russia Today website.

Putin expressed his admiration to the North Korean leader for the remarkable development in the capital, Pyongyang, since his last visit in 2000.

For his part, the North Korean leader highlighted Russia's role in maintaining strategic balance in the world and expressed his full support for Russia's special military operation in Ukraine.

Late at night, President Putin arrived in Pyongyang. The last time Putin visited North Korea was in 2000, when the then North Korean leader was Kim Jong Il, the current leader's father.
