The Central Korean News Agency reported on Thursday that the North Korean parliament has approved an amendment to the constitution to shape the country's nuclear policy.

The agency stated that the Supreme People's Assembly unanimously endorsed "the crucial item on the agenda regarding the formulation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's policy on nuclear power as one of the state's fundamental laws."

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was quoted by the agency as saying before the parliament that it is "extremely important... to accelerate the modernization of nuclear weapons in order to decisively maintain the strategic deterrent advantage."

This development comes amid ongoing international concerns regarding North Korea's nuclear capabilities and its intentions.

Experts suggest that this move could further complicate diplomatic efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and calls for continued international dialogues to address North Korea's nuclear ambitions.
