North Korea’s Ministry of Defense has accused the United States of destabilizing global and regional security, urging Washington to abandon its "hostile policies" and warning of the need to maintain a strategic balance in the region.
In an official statement, the ministry emphasized that strengthening North Korea’s self-defense capabilities is essential to counter what it calls increasing provocations from its adversaries and to ensure the nation’s security.
The statement criticized the US for expanding its nuclear arsenal and intensifying military deployments, claiming that Washington is using the so-called "North Korean threat" as a pretext to advance its military dominance in the region.
North Korea also accused the US of promoting missile defense systems and space militarization under the guise of national security.
Recent US military maneuvers have further fueled tensions, including the arrival of a nuclear-powered submarine at a South Korean port and ongoing discussions between American, South Korean, and Japanese military officials on ballistic missile tracking and joint space defense exercises.
The US and South Korea are preparing for a large-scale military drill in March, known as "Freedom Shield", which North Korea views as a direct provocation.
Pyongyang argues that these military activities justify its own efforts to enhance defensive and deterrent capabilities against growing threats.
North Korea’s Ministry of Defense stated that if Washington is truly concerned about its national security, it should abandon military threats and hostile policies toward sovereign states.
The statement concluded by reaffirming that North Korea’s armed forces will remain vigilant, ensuring the protection of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and throughout the region.
