On Monday, Elon Musk went said Apple threatened to block Twitter from its App Store without explanation and mostly had stopped advertising on the app.

The tirade highlighted the enormous power that Apple, the world's most valuable company, has over the fate of the world's richest man's gamble on Twitter.

The rant also pointed to the role Apple could play in countering Musk's chaotic rule on the social network; Apple previously revoked App Store privileges from companies that violated its security policies or hosted violence and other problematic content.

If the company blocks Twitter from its App Store, new users will not be able to download the Twitter app on their iPhones and iPads, and existing users will not be able to access updates.

The alleged threat adds to the pressure from advertisers, employee departures, and regulatory scrutiny facing Musk as he seeks to overhaul years of Twitter's policies and account suspensions in his quest to advance his "free speech" agenda.

Musk sought to pressure the company and CEO Tim Cook in a series of tweets to pause that spending, a pause that comes in the middle of the holiday shopping season.

Apple did not respond to requests for comment.

In the series of tweets, Musk sought to bring up long-standing concerns and political scrutiny about Apple's market power.
