Moussa Afshar: Escalating Executions Reflect the Existential Terror of the Velayat-e Faqih Regime Facing Collapse and the "Resistance Units"

Moussa Afshar, a member of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), stated that the crumbling regime’s recourse to escalating the machinery of execution and repression against members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) and activists of the "Resistance Units" is not a sign of strength. Rather, it is an intense expression of the existential panic gripped by the Velayat-e Faqih regime in its final moments.

Afshar said: "The execution of resistance heroes—including Mohammad Taghavi, Babak Alipour, Pouya Ghobadi, Abolhassan Montazer, Vahid Bani Amerian ,and Akbar Daneshvarkar—after prolonged periods of brutal torture, proves that the regime, which currently faces the destruction of its military machine due to the external war, fully realizes that the imminent danger that will ultimately topple it lies within. Specifically, it lies in the beating heart of Iranian society led by the organized resistance."

He added: "As the external war continues for its thirty-first day, the Mullah regime chooses the path of the gallows to rule through terror, attempting to impose a 'forced calm.' This does not reflect stability but rather a deep-seated fear of an imminent explosion of popular rage, especially following the death of the executioner Khamenei and the installation of his son, Mojtaba—a move that has transformed the religious dictatorship into a fragile and illegitimate hereditary mafia."

Afshar continued: "What the Mullahs fail to account for is that repression has historically never succeeded in breaking the will of the people. From the 1980s until today, the resistance has renewed itself in more organized forms. The 'Resistance Units' have evolved into a de facto liberation army capable of carrying out strategic operations in the heart of Tehran, such as the bold operation carried out by 250 fighters against Khamenei’s headquarters on February 23."

He explained: "These executions are a political tool par excellence through which the regime aims to turn the state of emergency resulting from the war into a permanent condition to justify repression. However, the blood of the six martyrs executed over the past few days has only increased the determination of the 'Resistance Units' to move forward toward the desired democratic change."

Afshar emphasized: "The democratic alternative, represented by the National Council of Resistance of Iran, has clearly announced the formation of the Provisional Government based on Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point plan. This is the only project capable of transferring sovereignty to the people and ending the era of tyranny. The Resistance does not gamble on foreign intervention; it relies entirely on the strength of its people and a generation of youth who no longer see silence as an option."

Afshar concluded: "We demand that the international community end the shameful policy of appeasement, close the embassies of this terrorist regime, and recognize the right of the Iranian people and the 'Resistance Units' to overthrow the Velayat-e Faqih regime. Executions will not save the regime from its inevitable fate. The future belongs to the people who have chosen peace and freedom that will only end with the establishment of a pluralistic, democratic republic."
