Moscow has called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres, to assess the legality of the presence of US forces in Syria in light of the UN Charter.
"We call on UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to assess the compliance of the United States and other forces in Syria with the UN Charter," said Dmitry Polyansky, Russia's first deputy representative to the United Nations.
Last Wednesday, Syria vowed to sue the US administration for the crimes it committed against Syria.
The statement issued by the Syrian Foreign Ministry added that "there were reports of a new direction by the US administration to exclude the areas occupied by US forces in Syria from the illegal unilateral coercive measures imposed by Washington on Syria years ago.
