Morocco has embarked on a significant initiative to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in improving its infrastructure, particularly in road maintenance and geographic mapping.

The country’s Ministry of Equipment and Water has announced plans to utilize AI for analyzing geographic maps, maintaining roads and public works, and processing satellite imagery to enhance the nation's infrastructure.

Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, revealed that the ministry's action plan prioritizes the use of cloud technologies as part of its broader digital transformation strategy.

The plan also includes implementing sovereign cloud computing systems such as the National Human Resources Management System, aimed at modernizing and streamlining public sector operations.

This announcement was made in response to a parliamentary question about Morocco's engagement with AI and its role in developing digital services within the Ministry of Equipment and Water.

According to Hespress newspaper, the ministry is focused on advancing AI-driven systems for accurate data analysis and has set a goal to fully digitize its processes by 2025.

The move is expected to simplify procedures, reduce processing times, and enhance service delivery for Moroccan citizens.

The Ministry of Equipment and Water is also working to establish an integrated information system that will allow real-time data sharing between regional and central authorities.

This system is designed to improve decision-making processes and promote better coordination across the ministry’s departments.

By centralizing information, the ministry aims to enhance operational efficiency and ensure more cohesive governance at the national level.

Minister Baraka further outlined that significant strides have already been made in digitizing administrative services, including projects directly benefiting citizens.

One of the key initiatives includes an online platform for submitting and tracking requests for certification and classification of construction and public works laboratories, as well as the approval of consulting offices across various regions.

The digitalization efforts have also extended to streamlining the ministry’s internal operations.

New systems include electronic document management, human resource management, geographic information systems (GIS), and water point management. Additionally, the ministry has introduced a system for land expropriation management.

Minister Baraka confirmed that the ministry’s digital transformation strategy is centered on improving the performance efficiency of its services, expanding new e-services, and transitioning towards comprehensive digital transactions. The strategy also focuses on leveraging data capital as a critical resource to support leadership and innovation using modern technologies.
