Spanish authorities have urged more than 160,000 people living in five municipalities in Catalonia not to leave their homes due to a toxic chlorine cloud caused by a fire at an industrial warehouse.
"If you are in the affected area, do not leave your home or workplace," the northeastern region's civil protection agency said on social media, according to France's Europe 1 radio, Saturday. The affected municipalities are located on the coast, between Barcelona and Tarragona.
Firefighters said on social media that "no injuries have been reported so far" and that they have deployed extensive resources to extinguish the blaze.
The fire broke out at dawn on Saturday in an industrial warehouse storing swimming pool products in the municipality of Vilanova i la Geltrú, releasing a toxic chlorine cloud, according to firefighters.
