Mahmoud Mokhtar's "Ibn El Balad" Statues Auctioned for GBP 189,000

Legendary Egyptian sculptures Mahmoud Mokhtar's "Ibn El Balad" (The Son of Nation) statue has been recently auctioned for GBP 189,000 (EGP 4 million) at Sotheby's auction house.

The statue went under the hammer as part of Sotheby's "20 Century Art/Middle East" auction which was closed on March 30.

The earliest estimations of the status ranged between GBP 20,000, and GBP 110,000.

According to the house auction, the piece was part of Hafez Afifi Pasha's private collection, and it was sold by his heirs.

Several gems of the Egyptian arts were sold at the same auction including another famous statue of Mokhtar which is "Arous El Nil" (The Bride of Nile). It was auctioned for v 163,000.

Mahmoud Said's "Piraeus at Dawn" also went under the hammer on the same occasion, it was estimated at GBP 3000,000.

Late Adam Henein's "Man with Fish" was sold for GBP 50,400 at the same event.
