Eng. Mohsen Salah, the chairman of the Board of Directors of Arab Contractors Company, said: “The studies to renovate Eliyahu Hanbi Synagogue in Alexandria took place about two and a half years ago.”

“At that time, it was just ruins of a building that contains walls, broken ceilings, fallen stairs, and Candlestick holdings,” Salah stated.

During his meeting with TV presenter Mohamed Gad on the “Sabah ElBalad” talk show program, Salah added: “The Arab Contractors Company is specialized in doing researches that can discover the origin of the building, its history, and its decorations when it was first established.”

He pointed out that the Jewish temple was built on ruins of an old building and when it was discovered it was left to receive visitors.

He confirmed that when the Arab Contractors Company received Eliyahu Hanbi Synagogue, it was just ruins of a building.

“Through studies and research, decorations of the building, columns, and holdings that were present were renovated,” the chairman of the Arab Contractors company added. “Some missed raw materials were brought from Italy and other countries,” He said.

Salah revealed: “The Company is interested to restore the building as it used to be. This is what the company is distinguished in.”

Salah went on saying: “The library's holdings of the synagogue were preserved inside a building outside the temple. It was accompanied by chandeliers and candlesticks and 15 layers of it were removed and returned to their primary color.”

About 90% of the temple original form was restored after completing its renovation and officially opened.
