Meta is preparing to test a new paid subscription model across its major platforms, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, offering selected users exclusive features for enhanced productivity, creativity, and artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
The company confirmed that the core versions of its platforms will remain free for all users, while premium subscription tiers will provide advanced functionalities. Meta has not yet disclosed final pricing or the complete list of features for the paid packages.
Leaks suggest that Instagram users could gain perks such as unlimited follower lists, insights into accounts that do not follow back, and the ability to view stories discreetly. Advanced AI tools, including the video creation assistant *Vibes* and the content generation helper *Manus*, may also be included to streamline content management and creative tasks.
The move represents a strategic shift for Meta as it transitions some services, such as the free *Vibes* tool launched in September 2025, to a freemium model where basic functions remain free while premium features require payment. Meta has confirmed that these offerings will be separate from its existing Meta Verified identity verification service.
This announcement follows earlier plans to introduce an ad-free subscription option, reflecting the company’s broader efforts to diversify revenue streams beyond advertising.
Industry analysts note that the success of Meta’s subscription model will depend on the perceived value of the premium features, especially in comparison to established services such as YouTube Premium. Experts caution that relying solely on AI-powered tools may not be sufficient to attract a large subscriber base without tangible, practical benefits.
Meta’s move signals its intent to blend AI innovation with monetisation, positioning the company to expand its revenue while offering users new ways to enhance their digital experience.
