Massive Fires Breaks out in Israel, Authorities Evacuate Thousands

Israel is suffering from a series of huge fires in various areas in the north of the country, and authorities evacuated 5,000 people from their homes so far.

The fires spread to agricultural lands and covered large areas in different parts of Israel, according to the Jerusalem Post on Friday.

As the police evacuated thousands from their homes, and some hotels opened their doors to receive the displaced families.

The huge fires devoured wooded areas in northern Israel, at a time when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is holding an urgent meeting and studying the request for international assistance to control the fire.

Large fires erupted near six towns so thousands of residents were evacuated, while a fire shut down part of Highway 6.

The Israeli media reported that two people were injured due to smoke inhalation in a village.

Most fires are believed to have been caused due to extreme heat conditions, officials in the Israeli security establishment raised concerns that some fires in the West Bank were the result of deliberate arson by Palestinian inpiduals.

Israeli soldiers were recruited to help wildfire containment efforts and evacuate citizens from residential areas of the country that were under threat.

The amount of emergency service workers were not enough, and a request was sent for more fire teams and air support in addition to teams already at the scene. The fire department released a statement that read: "There is no control over the fire."

On the other hand, the official Lebanese News Agency reported on Friday, that a large fire broke out near the southern Lebanese border with Israel, indicating that the residents feared the fire spreading to Lebanese territory.

The agency said that the fire broke out near the Lebanese border adjacent to the towns of Hula and Hunin," pointing to "the possibility of the fire spreading to Lebanese territory due to wind speed and high temperatures.
